Around the Horn with the Yankees

The Grandy Man Can’t….A Grade II groin strain sounds like more than a two week injury to me, in fact, it sounds like considerably more than a 4 week injury to me. According to the Hughston Sports Medicine Foundation a Grade II muscle strain differs from a Grade I strain in that involves a partial tear of the muscle or tendon that connects the muscle to the bone, where a Grade I strain just involves a stretching of the tissue (FWIW, the difference between a strain and a sprain is that a strain involves muscle or tendon tissue, an sprain occurs to ligaments). According to insurer Aetna’s IntelliHeath website: ”In the legs, mild or moderate strains may take up to 8 to 10 weeks or more to heal.” I guess we’ll be seeing a lot of Randy Winn between now and the Allstar break.

Girardi’s Pinch Running Fetish Returns…There it was again, rearing it’s ugly head the 9th inning of yesterday’s game. With the Yanks trailing by a run with two outs in bottom of the Alex Rodriguez reached first and Girardi promptly pinch ran with Ramiro Pena. Alex is already the fastest Yankees on the roster and Pena really has no better of first than Alex, the Yanks were already short a man with Granderson out from an injury, and Girardi’s game decisions and already caused Yanks to lose the DH.  No one  abuses the decision to pinch run like Joe Girardi.

Test for Hughes…Good test for Hughes today matched up against a big time stater in Mark Buehrle in a rubber match the Yanks really want to win. I’m really interested to see what the kid brings.
