Next to Babe Ruth, who put professional baseball on the map of mass media and huge commercial appeal, there is no more important player in New York baseball history than Jackie Robinson – and certainly no National Leaguer. I’m a huge fan of the naming of the rotunda at Citi Field for Robinson, and I admire how Major League Baseball actually gets this particular celebration and remembrance right. Robinson is rightly remembered as a great civil rights leader, but I think it’s important to recall that much of his particular brand of leadership and bravery took place in uniform. So here’s a great video collage of collected Jackie Robinson footage – it’s easy to see even 60 years later what a great player he was.
