Angry protesters took the streets outside Wrigley Field to protest the appearance of the Arizona Diamondbacks inside – well, not so much the likes of Mark Reynolds, Ian Kennedy or Kelly Johnson as the state they represent, a state currently residing in a land called infamy, bobbing in a filthy sea of racism and nativism.
I think it’s fabulous idea to picket the D-backs all over baseball in every city they play in. Sure, the economic factor of the “boycott” is tiny (I’ll be lots of the protesters went inside to watch the game) – but the symbolism and its portability are fabulous. And it works especially well in a modern game dominated by Latin immigrants. Under the new Arizona law, Robinson Cano and Jose Reyes would be instantly suspect and subject to arrest on the streets of Phoenix.
So protest on (I’ll join at Citi Field) and let’s keep it American.
