Sunday Night Reading: Your Mets Blog Notes

This week, it’s the annual wearin’ o the green in the state of Florida, as the Mets make early cuts and don hideous St. Patty’s Day garb – just another sign that it’s only two weeks till Opening Day. So what’s happening out there in blogland, what’s the good word, what’re people thinking. It’s Sunday night – enjoy the links:

There’s a new Mets Yearbook on the way at SNY – these nifty TV throwbacks have warmed the long, cold winter – and it’s back to the glory days of gorgeous downtown 1980 [via Mets Police]. Manager Joe Torre led his merry band to that 67-95 record powered by Lee Mazzilli and Claudell Washington, and led on the mound by Ray Burris.

Mack’s Mets is a great site and Mack has the tip jar out, so let’s go hit it – he’s got a great offer on some prospect research as well.

Greg Prince at Faith and Fear in Flushing rightly praises a profile of Jennry Mejia by Brian Costa of the Star-Ledger, which recounts the Mets’ young fireballer’s days as an $8-a-day shoeshine boy who didn’t pick up a baseball in earnest till he was 15.

At the Real Dirty Mets Blog, Rusty Jr. argues strongly against using young Jennry as the Mets’ new set-up man in the pen. “The future is Mejia – but in my opinion , the future is not now.”

As usual, life in Metsland has kranepool exhausted – and scared of how Jerry Manuel will piece together the Mets squad heading north: “The biggest gripe I have and most Mets fans have is the lack of a strong leader in management.”

Over at Metsmerized, Vegas Rich tells his fellow Mets fans that it’s way too early to panic: “Just because two of our top five players will not be in the starting lineup on opening day, and the so called starting rotation has looked a trifle bit shaky three weeks into spring training, it doesn’t mean we should be holding our Hari Kari swords about 18 inches from the point of entry.”

There’s a fantastic blogger roundtable previewing the 2010 season at On the Black – video from McFaddens…the one on 42nd Street.

And here’s a bet at The ‘Ropolitans sure to warm a Mets fan’s heart: Whether or not the Mets will finish the season in last place. Ugh. We prefer to look at the coming of Daylight Savings and Johann’s outing today as positive harbingers. Maybe.
