No, Andy's not a Hall of Famer - though a very good major league pitcher on championship clubs - and he's relatively close. Interesting, Baseball-Reference lists 3 HoFers in its 10 mostly closely related list to Pettitte:

1. Kevin Brown (893)
2. Bob Welch (888)
3. Dwight Gooden (887)
4. David Wells (883)
5. Orel Hershiser (877)
6. Catfish Hunter (873) *
7. Juan Marichal (859) *
8. David Cone (857)
9. Dazzy Vance (856) *
10. Jack Stivetts (854)

All 3 have much lower ERAs, however.

I think you also have to compare Pettitte to two predecessors - and non HoFers - Jack Morris and Jerry Koosman. Morris went 254-186 3.90 with 2,478 K's and Kooz was 222-209 (lotsa bad teams) with a stellar 3.36 and 2,556 K's. Both of those guys were stud starters who came to mind in discussing Pettitte.
