The Captain on Joba… Jeter endorses Joba to the pen in Mark Feinsand’s Daily News column:
He gets by on emotion, and it’s easier – or at least more fitting – to get by on emotion when you’re in the bullpen. There are guys that can do it as a starter, but for him, I think being in the bullpen is a good thing
I wanted to see Joba get a chance to start, but, as we’ve been discussing the more I see of Joba as a starter, the more he looks like a reliever (which is, it appears, true also of the Yankees braintrust).
Werth It?…A lot of talk on the blogs yesterday about Reggie Jackson’s relationship with Jayson Werthand the chance the Yanks will sign Werth in the off season. I like Werth. He’s a good ballplayer. A run producer. And I’m sure the Yankees plan is to continue beefing up the oufield next year (Gardner, Swisher, Winn and Thames ain’t permanent solutions). But if it’s a choice between Werth–a 30 year old, .265 right-handed hitting slugger–an Carl Crawford–a 27-year old, .295 left-handed hitting speedster, I think Crawford’s both a better player and the player that better fits the Yankees’ needs.
Bill Dickey’s Ghost?…Here’s one for Twasp–moving pictures of the great Bill Dickey so he doesn’t remain invisible.
