A-Rod Targeted by Feds?

First, Jose Reyes was interviewed by the FBI in Port St. Lucie. Now Alex Rodriguez has been described as “of interest to investigators” looking to build a case against Canadian doctor Anthony Galea, who is under investigation for distributing performance-enhancing drugs. Also in Federal crosshairs: Tiger Woods, who reportedly had the same platelet-spinning treatment that did nothing for Reyes’ aching hamstring last year.

Now it’s A-Rod turn, and you just know that when it comes to the Yankees third-sacker the drama amplifier will be somehow cranked up to 11. For one thing, reading between the lines of today’s Daily News piece, A-Rod’s involvement doesn’t seem as simple as the blood changing that Reyes described to reporters; ie, this sounds potentially ominous:

The nature of A-Rod’s relationship with Galea, the Toronto physician who was arrested in October after authorities found illegal drugs in his assistant’s car during a stop at the U.S. Canadian border, is unclear. Mark Lindsay, a Canadian chiropractor who managed the Yankee third basemen’s rehabilitation after hip surgery last year, is an associate of Galea, however. Galea and Lindsay are principals at a Toronto sports medicine clinic called Affinity Health. Galea is being investigated in both Canada and the U.S.

Lindsay has deep ties to BALCO, the San Francisco-area lab that provided designer steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs to athletes. Lindsay has treated former NFL star Bill Romanowski and sprinters Marion Jones and Tim Montgomery. All three athletes testified before the BALCO grand jury.

Of course, it could be nothing, the Feds do seem intent on building a BALCO-like case – and on calling athletes to the grand jury. Somehow, I think we’ll be following this thing all summer long.

Yeah, it would have been stupid but I wouldn't put anything past A-rod or, pretty much any pro athlete. But anyway the Feds looking to build a case might be looking for all kinds of info including info including tied to BALCO. They can put all kinds of pressure on A-rod.

And "A-Rod" and "investigation" will always be catnip to the backpages....which, amazingly, still matter in the so-called post-newspaper world.

dude, A-Rod would have to be incredibly stupid to have stretched the rules LAST YEAR, which is what you are implying.

Well, it is A-Rod - let's just say that.

Not really implying anything - but the coverage of his involvement seems a bit more sinister. Could all be media hype.
